Glass direct from the flame

HAND BLOWN GLASS

Flameworked glass

Borosilicate glass (originally known as Pyrex) heated, blown and sculpted in the very hot gas-fired flame of a small bench torch. This way of working is intimate and very different to furnace-blown glass. As the glass starts to melt, it feels as if it comes alive – every hand movement, every change in temperature or flame atmosphere, each breath has an effect on the final piece.

Inspired by Lake District landscapes, colours and textures, my work is a  blend of scientific and artistic techniques as well as methods of working that I have developed in the studio.
