A Flame with Desire

Borosilicate glass lampwork tuition

Come and visit my studio in the heart of the beautiful English Lake District and learn more about this exciting glass. The Lakes provide the perfect opportunity to combine learning with pleasure - there are lots of places to see and plenty for other halves/children to do while you enjoy a day with the torch.
Our closest railway stations are Windermere and Grange-over-Sands, each about 20 minutes away. If necessary, I can recommend bed & breakfasts and campsites close by.
If you are used to soft glass techniques, starting to work with borosilicate glass can present quite a challenge and a whole new learning curve. The possibilities with this glass are pretty much endless, but I would hope to leave you with a good idea of where to start and to give you the confidence to continue working and exploring boro. These lessons are not designed for beginner lampworkers - you do need to have some familiarity with flameworking glass.

Anything you make during the day will be annealed and sent on to you.
Classes will be seven hours, 10am-5pm, and are £120 for the day - this includes lunch, all glass used and of course tea and biscuits!
You will be learning using a GTT Bobcat with an 8litre oxycon.
To find out more, please email - beads@theflyingbead.co.uk
The day will be structured to suit you, but possible suggestions would be:

Borosilicate colour for beads and pendants

You will receive notesheets to take away with you with suggested suppliers, hints on colours and working tips.
Borosilicate glass is very different to soft glass to work with and we will spend the day exploring its capabilities for beads, covering flame atmosphere, working methods, colour types and the addition of frits.
