Flameworked glass tuition
Come and visit my studio in the heart of the beautiful English Lake District and learn more about flameworking with borosilicate glass. The Lakes provide the perfect opportunity to combine learning with pleasure – there are lots of places to see and plenty for other halves/children to do while you enjoy a day with the torch.
Our closest railway stations are Windermere and Grange-over-Sands, each about 20 minutes away. If necessary, I can recommend bed & breakfasts and campsites close by.
If you are used to soft glass techniques, working with borosilicate glass is very different and can feel quite challenging, though at the same time fun and an adventure. While it works at a higher heat than soft glass, borosilicate glass is stiffer and more thermally stable, making it in some ways easier to form. I hope to give you the confidence to get going and explore this exciting medium. The possibilities with this exciting glass are pretty much endless, and my tuition is designed to leave you with a good idea of where to start and to give you the confidence to continue working and creating with borosilicate glass.
Anything you make during the day will be annealed and sent on to you.
I offer full or half day classes. Half days run from 9am to 12.30pm or from 1.30pm to 5pm and cost £75. Full days run from 10am-5pm, and are £140 for the day – this includes all glass used.
You will be learning using a GTT torch with oxygen concentrators.
Classes can be structured to suit you. Popular topics include classic pendant techniques, Sculptural flameworking, Flameworked marbles, Flowers and natural forms in borosilicate glass.
