Textured glass, Ribwort plantain

Hand blown, flameworked textured glasses

Ribwort plantain. One of those plants that grows on the edges of paths round here that I wouldn’t have been able to identify by name until I needed to because the leaves have a nice texture. Not as easily identifiable a texture as fern or moss, but I like the long lines and the very definite grain with these. .

As with all my work, these glasses are flameworked by hand using a hot gas-fired torch ti form rods and tubes of borosilicate glass. The stems are individually coloured, the tops blown using a hand-shaped mould that has been lined with ribwort plantain leaves to give a unique texture. Moulds are short-lived, making each run of glasses very individual.
