Hand blown wine glasses, flower stems

Hand blown wine glasses, flower stems

I love making these, from blowing the goblet tops (a great way to warm a cold studio in winter) to forming the feet and all the stems in between. To me, those stems are what hold these glasses together and make them so special. The designs, with their flowers and fern-like dots, spring directly from the natural world and the gardens we have here in the lakes. The colours, as usual with borosilicate glass, work well with this theme – the slightly hazy bluey green background has a bit of a sparkle and looks different in different light, transmitted or reflected.

These glasses can be made to order or bought from my Etsy shop. I can make the same designs with different coloured backgrounds, I’m just a sucker for these two in particular.

As with all my work, these glasses are flameworked by hand using a gas-fired torch. They are individually worked and shaped, meaning that each one is slightly different and unique. I don’t use a lathe or machines to form my work – just my hands to guide the glass.
